Early on in Sons of the Forest, you’ll learn just how important it is to manage your character’s nourishment by cooking food. You really don’t want to go hungry while you’re exploring the unknown. The downside, however, is that you need to keep chasing animals just to acquire raw meat. Thankfully, there’s a method that might prevent a few headaches. Here’s our guide to help you craft Animal Traps in Sons of the Forest.

Sons of the Forest guide – How to craft Animal Traps

To start crafting the Sons of the Forest Animal Traps, you’ll need sticks… lots and lots of sticks. Basically, sticks are scattered all over the ground. But, you could also start chopping down small trees or shrubbery. Simply open your inventory by pressing the “I” key, then equip the Axe. Once you done that, start wailing away and gather the items that have dropped.

Your goal is to amass enough to craft either of these Animal Traps in Sons of the Forest:

  • Small Animal Trap – 14x sticks; placed on flat ground.
  • Fish Trap – 25x sticks; placed in bodies of water or rivers.

After acquiring the necessary items, open the inventory and select the Guide Book. Then, hold the “X” key to switch to the craftable/buildable objects, and select the Traps tab (i.e., the bottommost icon).

Now, let’s say you want to build the Small Animal Trap. Simply click on it and a white outline of the structure will appear. Find a proper spot and press the “E” key several times, which will cause your character to place the sticks in the proper alignment. Assuming there are rabbits or other critters nearby, they should get caught after a while, and you’ll have a passive means of obtaining meats.
